At Hawk Ridge Systems, I worked with my colleague, Mark Dolinar, to design, produce, and test a pair fully 3D printed snowboard bindings to highlight the capabilities of the digital design and manufacturing solutions that Hawk Ridge Systems provides. In addition to producing the bindings, we wrote and produced a 6 part video series that culminated in a webinar that highlighted our work and the capabilities of Hawk Ridge System’s solutions.
The bindings themselves were based off of a pair of old bindings that my colleague Mark had used before. We scanned the bindings using a Creaform 3D Scanner and VX Elements, re-created the boot supporting surfaces using SOLIDWORKS and VX Model, designed the bindings using SOLIDWORKS and Materialise Magics, printed using HP’s 580 and 4200 Multi Jet fusion 3D printers, and vapor smoothed with AMT’s PostPro 3D. Aside from the fasteners, straps, and off the shelf hardware, this project resulted in a fully digitally designed and additively manufactured product.
I was responsible for 3D Scanning the bindings with a Creaform 3D scanner and VX Elements, re-creating the surfaces that support the snowboard boots with VX model and SOLIDWORKS, mechanical design of the bindings using SOLIDWOKRS and Materialise Magics, filming the entire series, and co-writing and editing the 6 videos that led up to the webinar.
